Poster contest winners at Mayor's awards ceremony
The Department of Water Supply’s 2nd annual Water Conservation Poster Contest drew 332 entries from 30-plus public, private and home
schools countywide. The goal of the contest was to educate Maui County’s youth on the importance of water conservation and to encourage them to take an active role in ensuring the sustainability of Maui County’s water supply.
The contest entries were evaluated based on water conservation message, originality, visual effectiveness, neatness and creativity. The first-place through third-place winners received Savings Bonds, $100 for first; $75 for second; and $50 for third.
Winning entries and honorable mentions are posted on the 5th floor of the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku and will be featured in the 2012 DWS
Water Conservation Calendar. They were honored in a ceremony in Mayor Alan Arakawa’s office on May 5, 2011. The contest’s three-judge panel included artist and former Department of Water Supply director
George Tengan, retired teacher
Rosemary Robbins, and Maui Nui Botanical Garden’s executive director
Joylynn Paman.
