The West Maui Taxpayers Association is working with Maui Emergency Management Agency, Pacific Disaster Center, and State Emergency Management Agency to develop a disaster plan for West Maui.
The Hawaiian Hazards and Resilience Program (HHARP) will present a series of monthly workshops for the community, to learn about hazards & warning information, identify community resources, assess & mitigate hazard risk, develop a disaster plan and meet program milestones.
The first series of West Maui HHARP workshops will cover Hazard Awareness, as follows:
February 16 - Earthquake Basics, Detection, Warning & Response
March 16 - Flood Basics, Monitoring, Warning & Response
April 20 - Tsunami Basics, Detection, Warning & Response
May 18 - Tropical Cyclone Basics, Monitoring, Warning & Response
Future topics will include Personal & Community Planning, Sheltering, Hazard Assessment, and Post-Disaster Recovery Planning. Continuing workshop schedules will be publicized.
