Environmental Assessment Determination

Purpose:

An Environmental Assessment (EA) is a written evaluation prepared to provide information and a determination to the public and decision makers as to whether proposed actions may have a significant environmental effect when they are subject to the HRS Chapter 343 Environmental Impact Statements law.

How To Apply:

Complete the Environmental Assessment Review application and an accompanying draft Environmental Assessment document, and submit them to the Department of Planning.

A fully processed Zoning & Flood Confirmation Form must be attached to the EA application.  Begin the EA application process by filling in the project identification portion of the form and submitting it to the Zoning Administration and Enforcement Division at One Main Plaza Suite 335.  The zoning and flood designations are confirmed and then returned to the applicant for inclusion in the EA packet.

Accepting Authority:

Depending upon the circumstances, the Planning Department or the respective Planning Commission will be the Accepting Authority for the environmental document.

Duration of Acceptance:

No expiration, however an accepted document may need to be supplemented or replaced if circumstances surrounding the proposed action for which the environmental document was prepared change so as to later likely lead to different or increased environmental impacts not previously dealt with.

Fees:

Non-refundable filing fee (see Fee Schedule, Table A) payable to "County of Maui, Director of Finance".
